Atticus Gordon (b. 1995 Ottawa) is a painter and installation artist working between Ottawa, Canada and Chicago; his practice explores the meaning-making processes in painting. Atticus completed a BFA at the University of Ottawa in 2019 and is currently an MFA Candidate at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work has been exhibited in North America, Europe, and Asia including Berlin, Shanghai, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Halifax. Atticus is a recipient of the Ottawa Art Gallery Award of Excellence, the SAW Prize for New Work, and a BMO 1st Art Prize nomination. He has also received grants from the Ontario Arts Council, the City of Ottawa and the University of Ottawa. Archive Contemporary in Montreal, SomoS in Berlin, and the Poor Farm in Wisconsin have hosted Atticus for residencies. Atticus’ paintings are located in public collections of the City of Ottawa and the Colart Collection in Montreal. Atticus is also a curator, writer of art criticism, and co-founder of Nosy Mag, a non-profit publication examining Ottawa’s art and culture.
